I’m considering a workshop for business leaders called “Leading With Love”. I believe the main question in response to this workshop is – How can my business leadership be founded in love when I have to make real-world tough decisions? Won’t leadership that’s rooted in love make me look weak, make me a pushover?
If this workshop was framed around relationships everyone would get it. Of course, a relationship should first be about the love between a man and woman that’s what it’s all about – or should be anyway, but business?
Christ would say yes, even in business. He dropped what he called HIS commandment into the dynamic of every aspect of life including work which is this:
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35
Notice he didn’t have any contingency, any exceptions with regards to defining who you are to love. He repeats the same commandment in John 15,12 and also Mt 22,39 – so it must have been important to him….
As far as being seen as a push-over or week. That’s up to you. Hard decisions have to be made every day. Even firing an employee can be accomplished while upholding their dignity and with fraternal charity.
