The Value Builder System ™

Attollo has adopted the Value Builder System to help Catholic business leaders improve the overall health of their organizations. There are three parts to the system; the Value Builder Score, the PREScore and the Freedom Score

The Value Builder Score is valuable for any Catholic business leader be they an owner of a business, a president or CEO. The Value Builder Score they receive after taking a brief 34 question survey provides a baseline of the overall health of their organization. Attollo members work through a monthly curriculum during the peer group meetings and separate one-on-one coaching to work on their business based on the curriculum to improve their overall Value Builder Score.

The PREScore and Freedom Score are created specifically for business owners. The PREScore prepares them for a successful transition into their next chapter of life while enabling their business – and their people – to continue to thrive without them. The Freedom Score provides an assessment of their financial readiness to exit the business at sometime in the future and highlights key areas to consider and work on to ensure their future plans.

The Attollo Difference

Business As Mission

Attollo uses the Value Builder System in order to build healthy, thriving businesses. When you take the Value Builder Score Questionnaire you need to keep in mind it was designed for any owner of a privately held business. So the main purpose of the system is to improve or build the value of the organization for its ultimate sale by the owner. A business owner will eventually be looking to sell or to monetize what they have built. However….

Pope Saint John Paul II wrote in the encyclical letter Centesimus Annus, the following: “The Church acknowledges the legitimate role of profit as an indication that a business is functioning well. When a firm makes a profit, this means that productive factors have been properly employed and corresponding human needs have been duly satisfied.”

In the same letter he also wrote “But profitability is not the only indicator of a firm’s condition. It is possible for the financial accounts to be in order, and yet for the people — who make up the firm’s most valuable asset — to be humiliated and their dignity offended. Besides being morally inadmissible, this will eventually have negative repercussions on the firm’s economic efficiency . . . Profit is a regulator of the life of a business, but it is not the only one; other human and moral factors must also be considered which, in the long term, are at least equally important for the life of a business.

Additionally, in Laudato Si’, Pope Francis calls business a noble vocation, but he expressed concern of the false ideal of personal or corporate gain to the detriment of all else. He challenges business leaders to discover the intrinsic value of all God’s creatures, recognizing that natural resources have more than a utilitarian function; to see each person as a “subject who can never be reduced to the status of object”; and to create jobs “as an essential part of their service to the common good”. By focusing on God’s creation, business leaders can carry on God’s creation and serve it faithfully. The Pope’s call is to continual conversion at personal, corporate and community levels – an always fuller integration of all the facets of being human.

We at Attollo embrace the content and words the popes (from Pope Leo XIII to Pope Francis) who have weighed in on the subject of the role of business. Profit is certainly an indicator of the health of a business but it’s not the only indicator of health and, as Catholics, profit cannot be the only driver to build the value of an organization.

So when you take the free, no obligation Value Builder Score Questionnaire keep in mind its overarching purpose is to create a thriving business that lifts and blesses all those who interact with it: your employees, vendors, customers, stakeholders and the community it serves near or far.

The best businesses are run by leaders who view work through the eyes of the Catholic faith.
