As a citizen of Centennial Colorado, I get the city newsletter mailed to my home quarterly. One of the articles was about Centennial’s Innovation Team that is gathering community input on solutions to common aging challenges of its citizens. The areas of focus include work and volunteer opportunities, transportation, engagement, health, finance, community, housing and caregiving. The i-team gathered more than 475 ideas from a total of 83 team participants and will be moving toward focusing on solutions in these areas in the coming months.
It didn’t slip past me that this initiative is helping serve the common good, uphold / protect the dignity of the human person and is doing so in solidarity with its citizens. (3 of 4 pillars of Catholic Social Teaching)
I was just pondering what parish life would look like in general, not just on the subject of aging – although that’s a big issue in the Church too, and if it could be transformed through the adoption of this same concept… that is seeking the voices of everyone that could make our Catholic communities great. If a city government can do it, can the Catholic Church? Interested in this concept? Go to Centennial – Aging in Community
